Record breaking Peugeot restoration… part 1

We’re helping a friend restore an interesting Reynolds 531 framed Peugeot for his father, Mick Nash, who rode the bike when he and Spence Parker made their successful attempt at the Land’s End to John O’Groats armed forces record in 1979. They broke the record (held at the time by Jimmy Saville!), but by the time they appeared on Pebble Mill the record was broken again…

The bike was supplied by Solec Cycles in Huntingdon and had a few modifications done to it for the big ride. For the last few years its languished in a barn, but our plan is to restore the bike to almost exactly how it was ridden all those years ago (but with a few concessions such as a slightly smaller chainring, clincher rims and tyres etc.) and give it back to Mick for him to ride when he comes back to the UK… WATCH THIS SPACE!

  1. Superb, what a great project, an actual world record holding bike, love it!

I’d be tempted to push for as original as possible – why no tubs?

  2. Ex world record holding bike for an ex world record holding Dad. He’s 67 now. I no more expect him to be gluing his tyres on that I do expect him to be time trialling 200 miles plus a day. i’ll post the Jimmy Saville signed record attempt poster as soon as…
