1983 Coventry Eagle 531 Elite Tourist + Jim Harrison

Micah’s 60 year old ‘Handmade In Manchester’ Jim Harrison came to me looking very sorry for itself, with some of Shimano’s most horrible parts fitted to one of the most beautiful frames I’ve ever worked on.  Plus it had been fitted with a suspension seatpost AND stem :( Together we came up with a plan and, on a very tight budget, I’ve swapped out the bars, stem, shifters & levers to items a little more in keeping.  I was reticent about 8 speed friction, but the excellent Suntour Power Shifters make changing gears very nice indeed!  It would be lovely to change the rest of the drivetrain, but maybe next time :)

Also this week I repaired the brakes & drivetrain on Claire’s battered but lovely 1983 Coventry Eagle Elite Tourist.  It never fails to bemuse me the things that folk throw away.  Another successful low-mid budget refurbishment complete and ready to roll…
