Dead Rats Cycles were recently commissioned to build this versatile, unusual Vitus up from frame only for an old customer/friend.  The finished bike features robust handbuilt wheels with Gatorskins and runs along on a 2×7 speed Shimano SIS drivetrain, with an 11-30 cassette and 46/30 chainrings giving a wide range of cruising and climbing gears.  Dual pivot brakes with cartridge pads stop the little rocket very smartly, and the bike is equipped with North Road handlebars and an upright adjustable stem – to be replaced once the riding position is dialled in after a few long rides.  Speed, comfort and retro-modern style is never going to come cheap, but it’s a price we feel is worth every penny when the end result looks and rides this well…
