1980s Dawes 531 mixte

Reworked this beautiful early 1980s Dawes mixte for Adele recently, for whom the bike has great sentimental value.  The plan was to make the components and wheels more sympathetic to that lovely frame.  It came to the workshop fitted with an assortment of 21st century drab black anodized MTB drivetrain parts, which were replaced with a lovely vintage Shimano M550 Deore LX chainset and matching derailleurs.  We kept the excellent Shimano M730 cantilever brakes, pairing them with some superb MT60 levers.  New wheels, freewheel, chain and cables completed the rebuild along with new retro Clement LGG tyres and tubes.  Love how this elegant chartreuse bicycle has turned out; despite being something of a ‘bitsa’ it all works together beautifully and functions very well indeed…

During lockdown we’ve been extremely busy, if you’d like more regular updates on our projects please follow us on Instagram and Facebook.
