1990 Peugeot 653 Athena

Just had the pleasure of reviving this near mint and almost completely original Peugeot road racing bike, which owner Steve bought new 30 years ago from Harry Hall’s here in Mancunia!  Lugged Reynolds 653 tubing (531 Pro main triangle, 753R stays, 531C fork blades) with Campagnolo Athena ‘Synchro’ 7 speed groupset including headset and aero seatpost, Mavic sprint rims, Turbo Special saddle, plus a period Avocet computer and the bike’s original Look pedals – both in complimentary colourways.  Ça alors!

It came to our workshop in pretty decent condition.  To bring it up to fully match-fit however we rebuilt the hubs, trued the rims, cleaned and fine-tuned the gears, brakes & headset, installed dazzling new white bar tape (c/w NOS Milremo end plugs) and upgraded the bottle cage.  Finally some detailing and polishing of frame’s pearlescent paintwork and the groupset’s high quality anodising.

We’ve been extremely busy, if you’d like more regular updates on our projects please follow us on Instagram and Facebook.

    Hi.
I also have a Peugeot 653 Athena. Can I ask what the estimated cost is for a overhaul and headset replacement or repair?

    Thanks

    Jonathan
