1980 Dawes Galaxy

Back into our workshop for a second time is Will’s tatty but handsome and mostly original 1980 Dawes Galaxy.  Two years have passed since we first overhauled this classic sports tourer – during which time some b*stards stole the original large flange hubbed wheels – this time it’s come in for a quick lube & adjustment, new mudguards, chain, front gear cable and a pair of NOS brake pads.  Among its lovely features are the 57cm Reynolds 531 frameset, Weinmann 610/750 centrepull brakes, 86bcd Stronglight chainset, updated Shimano Sport LX index shifters, SR Laprade fluted post, Brooks saddle, alloy rat trap pedals and GB Randonneur ‘bars.  A true gentleman’s steed…

  1. Hello sir,

Still riding and fully in love with this bike – in fact my love grows stronger every day :)

Recently been itching to get a repaint done however, in some groovy new colour, and maybe get some new stickers on (531 sticker at least…)

Can you let me know what you might be able to do in this regard please?

Much appreciated, and hope you’re well

    Will

  2. Hi! My father found his 1980 Dawes galaxy when cleaning up the house and isn’t sure what to do with it! It’s in great condition, but he’s no longer biking and wants it to find a new home. Any recommendations for how to find someone that would appreciate how well made the cycle is?

  3. I am looking to refurbish my 1973 Dawes Galaxy and need to find tires, cables, front and rear derailleurs.
    Can you please help
