1994 Fausto Coppi Torino

Chris brought his late father’s pride & joy in for a full modernisation rebuild recently and here’s the result.  Work began with back to square one teardown and a thorough clean and polish for the aluminium frame and carbon fork.  The Tiagra 4700 groupset was diligently sourced by the owner as DRC does not charge corkage and, given the worldwide bike parts shortage , I was more than happy to have Chris take that mental load while I got on with the rest of the build.

The Shimano R550 wheelset remain from the bike’s earlier incarnation, and rolls smooth and true after some restoration work.  The Gipiemme saddle also stays the same as it suits both the bike and its owner very well.  The bars, stem and seatpost have been updated, along with new tyres, bar tape and pedals.  The finished result is lighter and more ergonomic than before, has more gears with a wider range and improved braking.  Plus I think the various understated shades work well visually – the bike has a ‘meaner’ look…

  1. Lovely bike! I bought a Fausto Coppi Torino from a car boot recently, looks to be in good condition but just filthy. Any idea how I can find out the year of manufacture? The Sora groupset looks like early 90’s but I’m not sure.

    1. Hi Dan, obviously you could look for a frame number but there will also be a two digit code on the Sora components that you can check… Google Shimano Date Codes when you have the two letters

  2. Hi Dan,
